Fantasia Concertante

This work was composed in 2004 on commission of the Italian State Police Band of Rome. The term "fantasia" shows that the piece is a free form composition, while "concertante" is a definition of an interaction relation between the soloists who melodiously and timbrically converse with the whole band. The piece is made up of three episodes that follow one another without a break (the first one is fast, the second one slow and the third one, fast again, following a kind of cadenza of the soloists, still fast). The musical frame does not fit traditional schemes, but is marked by free procedures similar to improvisation.
